On January 22, 2025, trainees from the U.S. Embassy’s Japanese Language Institute, who are U.S. State Department diplomats, gave special guest lessons as part of the Tobitate! Study Abroad JAPAN program.
The diplomats spoke in Japanese in the school hall and classrooms. They shared stories about their childhoods, why they became diplomats, their work experiences, and what they find rewarding. They also answered questions from students that were prepared in advance.
The lessons were very interesting, and many students felt inspired to work harder on learning English. Some students said they felt proud and happy that the diplomats, who live in Japan and work to support the U.S.-Japan relationship, expressed how much they love Japan.
We thank the diplomats for their lessons and wish them success. We also hope our students will look positively toward their own futures and try many new things!
