From August 8th to 14th, 2024, Kumon students visited Chiang Mai, Thailand. Located in northern Thailand, Chiang Mai is home to various ethnic groups, including hill tribes like the Akha and Lahu, as well as migrants from Myanmar. With the kind cooperation of local organizations and individuals, we conducted fieldwork in this region.

Through interactions with Shan people, Akha and Lahu hill tribes, and others, many of our preconceived notions formed during our pre-trip studies were challenged. This week-long experience allowed us to confront the limitations of our perspective and grasp the complexities of real-world issues.

We will continue to collaborate with local communities in the future. We will also have an opportunity to present our findings at the Expression Festival in October. Please come check it out.
